Terms & refund policy
The agreement between you and Brij when you book tutoring, a workshop seat or the Scholar programme. We have kept it in plain English on purpose.
Last updated: 16 August 2026
1. Who we are
Brij Tutoring (“Brij”, “we”, “us”) provides one-to-one academic tutoring, group workshops and university application support. You can reach us at admin@brijtutors.com.
2. What you are buying
We sell three different things, and the terms differ for each.
- Focus — 12 one-to-one sessions of 60 minutes in a single subject, delivered online. Sessions must be used within the validity period shown at purchase.
- Collective — one seat at a scheduled 3-hour live online group workshop, capped at 50 students. A seat admits one named student.
- Scholar — a programme of up to 150 hours across an academic year, combining tutoring, SAT preparation and university application support.
We commit to teaching well and preparing you properly. We do not guarantee a particular grade, score or university admission — no honest tutor can, because those outcomes depend on your own work as well as ours.
3. Payment
Card and Instant EFT payments are processed by Paystack; we never see or store your card details. Prices are in South African Rand and include any applicable taxes.
Scholar instalments. You may pay the programme up front, or in 10 monthly instalments collected automatically from your card. Choosing instalments is a commitment to the full programme fee, not a month-to-month subscription — the total payable is the same whether you complete the plan or stop early, subject to the refund terms below. If an instalment fails we will contact you and retry; if payments stop without agreement, we may suspend sessions until the account is current.
4. Workshops
- Seats are limited to 50 and sold on a first-come basis. Your seat is confirmed only once payment succeeds.
- Cancel more than 7 days before the workshop for a full refund.
- Within 7 days we cannot refund the seat, but you may transfer it to another scheduled workshop or send another student in your place — just tell us the name beforehand.
- If we cancel or postpone a workshop, you get a full refund or a free transfer, whichever you prefer.
- We may cancel a workshop that does not reach a viable number of attendees. You will be told at least 48 hours beforehand and refunded in full.
- Recordings and materials are for the attending student’s personal study only.
5. Rescheduling one-to-one sessions
- Reschedule free of charge with at least 24 hours’ notice.
- Inside 24 hours, or if a student does not attend, the session counts as used. Your tutor has held that time and turned down other work for it.
- If we cancel or a tutor cannot attend, the session is not deducted and we will offer a replacement slot as soon as possible.
- A student who is more than 15 minutes late without contact is treated as a non-attendance.
- If you cannot use your sessions within the validity period for a genuine reason — illness, exams moving, a family emergency — tell us and we will extend it. We are reasonable about this.
6. Refunds
We would rather refund you than have you feel stuck with something that is not working.
- Within 14 days, nothing used: a full refund on Focus and Scholar, no questions asked. Workshop seats follow the dedicated timings in section 4.
- After sessions have been used: we refund the unused portion, charged at our standard hourly rate of R350 rather than the discounted rate. The discount reflects the commitment as a whole, so it does not survive that commitment being broken up.
- Scholar on instalments: if you withdraw, we calculate hours delivered at the standard hourly rate, offset what you have paid, and settle the difference either way. Remaining instalments stop once that is agreed.
- If we cannot deliver — no suitable tutor, or we end the arrangement — you get a full refund of everything unused, at the rate you paid.
Refunds go back to the original payment method within 10 working days of being agreed. Request one by emailing admin@brijtutors.com.
7. What we expect from each other
We will turn up prepared, on time, and tell you the truth about progress even when it is not what you want to hear. We ask that students turn up ready to work, and that any agreed work between sessions is genuinely attempted — the method does not work otherwise.
We may end an arrangement, with a pro-rata refund, if a student is abusive to a tutor or repeatedly fails to attend. The same applies to disruptive behaviour in a workshop, where it affects everyone else in the room.
8. Academic integrity
We teach students to produce their own work. We will not write, complete or substantially rewrite any assessed work — including IB Internal Assessments, Extended Essays, coursework or admissions essays. We will teach, question, and give feedback on your drafts. Exam boards treat ghost-written work as malpractice, and so do we.
9. Intellectual property
Materials we create and share with you — including workshop slides, worked solutions and recordings — are for the student’s personal study. Please do not redistribute, share or resell them.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death, personal injury, fraud or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Otherwise, our total liability in connection with a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the one published when you paid, so changes never apply retroactively to something you already hold.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and nothing in them limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
13. Complaints
If something goes wrong, email admin@brijtutors.com and we will respond within two working days. We would much rather hear about a problem than have you quietly leave.
